Chloë Grace Moretz doesn't think it's true love if someone has to choose between their partner and career.

The 17-year-old star's latest movie is If I Stay, in which she plays Mia who has to make a massive life decision after she is involved in a car crash.

Mia has a boyfriend in the flick, which is based on the book by Gayle Forman, which has lead to many questions about how love can impact people's professional lives. Chloë has been romantically linked to David and Victoria Beckham's son Brooklyn lately and has very set ideas about romance.

"Well, I'd say it's not true love if someone makes you choose between love and your career. I think it's true love if they love you for your passion and who you are and what you love and what you do. That's what true love is," she told British magazine Hello! "It's accepting and you shouldn't have to change anything deep about yourself for anyone. Minor things changing are normal, but you should never change your entire life's process for someone else, because ultimately you'll regret that."

Mia's boyfriend Adam is played by Jamie Blackley and she found making their relationship believable a challenge. Not because she and Jamie didn't get along, but rather because Chloë understands how much is invested in romances.

"I think it does," she replied, when asked if experiencing love in real life makes it easier to portray on screen. "But the problem is that every love is different and unique. There are many forms if love and it's not an easy thing to fabricate for a role."

Other aspects of the shoot were easier for the young star. Mia is a talented cellist and that allowed a way for the actress to bond with the character, as she feels just as passionate about acting.

"She found the cello when she was eight years old and I found acting when I was five, so I found this deep connection to her, where we both understood at a very young age what we wanted to do with our lives. It clicked with each of us when most kids were still figuring out how to read," she said.
