(Cover) - EN Movies - Chloe Sevigny has claimed the movie Shame was disappointingly “thin” and should have been directed by Sean Penn.

The movie won praise from critics on its release last year for its intense portrayal of sexual addiction.

The 37-year-old actress said the explicit drama starring Michael Fassbender would have been “a whole different thing” if director Steve McQueen had been replaced.

“I thought it was very thin,” Chloe told Psychologies magazine, “I saw Sean Penn one night and I thought, ‘Man if you had directed that movie it would have been a whole different thing.’”

The actress, who rose to fame in the controversial 1995 movie Kids added that Fassbender “got off scot-free” despite the sexual content of the movie.

Chloe herself has come under fire during her career for the explicit nature of her work, most recently The Brown Bunny in 2003.

“I’ve been feeling [the double standard] more recently with Michael Fassbender in Shame,” she said. “I mean [Fassbender] got off scot-free. I try not to think about it too much.”

Kids centred on a group of sexually active teenagers in New York City, showing their unrestrained behaviour towards sex and substance abuse.

Despite the graphic content the actress insists she had no idea it would cause such a reaction.

“It was just my friends making it, we didn’t think it was a big deal,” she added.
