Chris Evans was “terrified” about taking on the part of Captain America.

The 33-year-old actor first starred as the hero in Captain America: The First Avenger back in 2011. Since then he has reprised the role in a sequel and the first Avengers movie.

And now fans will be seeing Chris as the Cap in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron this summer, the heartthrob admits he’s thrilled to finally feel in his stride with his on-screen alter ego.

“You know, with the first movie, you’re terrified,” Chris said while on the Age of Ultron set in London, according to MTV News. “But by Captain America 2 is when you start really hitting your stride and feeling like you’re making some core progress with the character. At this point, I’m feeling really good.”

In The Avengers, Chris starred alongside actors including Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth and Jeremy Renner.

The sequel sees their characters Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Hawkeye team up once again, and Chris says the group now work incredibly well together.

“The first Avengers, it was growing pains, getting to know each other, finding trust,” Chris said. “In this, we’re a unit. We hit the ground running in this movie, and since the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D., we’re forced to depend on one another, so right from the jump, there’s a very clear understanding that this is a team and we operate as a team. We’re going to win as a team, and we’re going to lose as a team.”
