Chris Pine says Meryl Streep will "tear people apart" in Into the Woods.
The handsome actor stars alongside the film legend in the upcoming fantasy flick, directed by Rob Marshall. Meryl portrays a classic fairytale witch, who puts a spell on The Baker and his Wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt), which leaves them childless. It's an evil role for the actress, and Chris found himself in awe of her performance on set.
"What Meryl's done is... It's like you don't want to jump on the bandwagon of genuflecting in front of someone who's probably one of the greatest actors of all time, but you have to because she's that good," he smiled to ScreenSlam. "She's got some songs in this that will tear people apart and her stuff is beautiful too because even though she portrays the Witch who classically is this mean, cold character... The material that Stephen [Sondheim, writer] has given her and the music and what she's bringing to it is all about a mother learning to let go of her children and it's just beautiful."
Chris, 34, is the Prince Charming to Anna Kendrick's Cinderella. He relished in bringing such an iconic character to life, along with the chance to film opposite some acting greats.
"Prince Charming is... I hope, basically what you think he is, coming off the page of a fairytale book. He is one of the characters in the film I think that is supposed to seem like you would expect Prince Charming to be for Cinderella," Chris explained.
"For me, the great kind of joy of this was getting to work with such a huge ensemble, such a great cast. I've had great times and great luck with those kinds of experiences before and to work with Meryl and Johnny [Depp] and Emily and James and Anna... You know, it's just been an incredible time."
