Christina Hendricks uses her mother's arguing tips.

The 40-year-old actress has often spoken about her mum Jackie and how she encouraged her to feel comfortable in her own skin growing up.

Christina learnt some other valuable lessons from her parent and still benefits from them today.

"My mother is a kind woman. There's not a mean bone in her body. I think kids can be cruel, but if she ever saw me being mean, she'd pull me aside and talk to me in a reasonable way," she told Psychologies magazine. "My mother taught me how to argue patiently and calmly, and how to listen more. These are tools that I still use to this day."

Jackie studied to be a psychotherapist when Christina was in junior high and would often test out her skills on her family. But the Mad Men actress admits she used to joke with her mum when she'd try to label her daughter as passive-aggressive or obsessive-compulsive.

Christina's father Robert is British, so the blonde star feels at home when in the UK. She's recently upped sticks from New York to Los Angeles to spend more time with her husband Geoffrey Arend. Despite having lots of long-distance relationships due to her work, Christina reasons she wouldn't have it any other way.

"It's rather like standing on the edge of a pool and someone pushes you in and you have to learn to swim. When I made the original leap to come to New York to model, it was an opportunity that I just had to take. The alternative to not going was scarier than going," she reasoned.
