George Clooney's marriage has been made official in a civil ceremony.

The dapper actor, 53, and his new wife 36-year-old British lawyer Amal Alamuddin held a wedding ceremony in Venice, Italy, on Saturday.

Today, in a brief ten minutes, the pair completed the formalities at Venice City Hall at a cost of 600 Euros. They needed the civil ceremony, held in the Ca' Loredan building, to make their vows official and the union legal under Italian law.

It marks the final day of the couple's epic four-day celebrations. Today Bono, one of the many A-listers invited on Saturday, opened up about the event.

As he watched George and Amal exchange vows, the musician couldn't help but feel moved.

"Wedding? What wedding? I was at a bar mitzvah," he joked to People magazine. "It was very emotional and lovely."

Much was made of George's decision to tie the knot, likely as he had been written off as an eternal bachelor before Amal came along.

The loved-up pair's every move was tracked in Italy and Bono, 54, joked it will take a while for the hype to blow over.

"The party was great. It's still going on... in some people's minds," he smiled.

Also turning up for the big day were Cindy Crawford, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski.

According to Us Weekly, Amal's father made a speech in which he urged them to start thinking about a family.

"Now it's time for grandchildren!" he enthused, according to Us Weekly.

Fans turned up in droves to try and be a part of the happy event. George made his way down the Grand Cana in a boat and even pulled some faces for the crowds.

The venue was decorated with white and green flowers, and it seems to have been a romantic ceremony.

"Clooney held Amal's hand when saying part of his vows," a source dished.

One person not there to celebrate was Ben Affleck, who is on promotional duties for Gone Girl.

“Yeah. Some people have to work and everybody else gets to be in Venice," he lamented to ET Canada. "But [George] found a great girl and I’m happy for them. I wish them the best."
