(Cover) - EN Movies - Colin Farrell has likened animation to hearing yourself on a voicemail message.

The actor lends his voice to Ronin in animated family film Epic, about the forces of good and evil fighting each other in a fantasy world.

Colin is usually apprehensive about watching his movies, but found the process easier for Epic.

“It’s funny; it’s less nerve wracking and less jarring. It should be more jarring but because of self-judgement… It’s just less of an involvement, there’s less of you there and I’m a big fan of anything that has less of me!” he joked to Collider.

“It’s like hearing yourself on a voicemail. I was so curious about the visual, which had nothing to do with me, that it distracted me from any usual queasiness I have about seeing myself.”

Epic also features the voices of celebrities including Beyoncé Knowles and Pitbull.

Colin was more drawn to the entire feel of the project than his particular character.

“More the world than the individual character; when I met the director I hadn’t read the script,” he explained.

“When I met them first and saw the world they were creating I just thought it was very beautiful what they wanted to do. It was just really achingly beautiful.”

The actor tried to understand as much as possible about his character to get believable emotion across in his voice.

Colin explained a little about what fans can expect from Ronin.

“He’s not a barrel of laughs!” he grinned.

“He’s the stoic, militant centre of the film, not the emotional comedian.”

Epic hits cinemas worldwide from this month.
