Kevin Costner won't be making a Dances with Wolves sequel.

The actor starred in and directed the popular 1990 film about a lieutenant who finds himself in a remote western outpost, where he makes friends with Indians and wolves.

Despite the feature going down well, there won't be a follow-up.

"No. I made the film I wanted to make," he explained to German newspaper Bild.

"But I love cowboy films! I want to make another four, for which the scripts are already written.

"It's not easy though. In Hollywood, you can't always make the films you want to make. I paid for Dances with Wolves myself and asked my cousin for some money."

The 59-year-old star seems to have it all: he's also happily married to Christine Baumgartner. They will celebrate their tenth anniversary in September.

"There's no recipe for success!" he explained. "It's my second time! I was previously married for 17 years [to Cindy Silva]. It didn't last. And there's no guarantee it will this time around. You either say yes to love, yes to life, yes to fear or you say no. I decided to say yes!"

Kevin and Christine have three children together - seven-year-old Cayden, Hayes, five, and Grace, four. Coming home is a mile away from the glitzy showbiz life.

"I have been really lucky in life - I managed to become famous worldwide," he said.

"But my three kids just want to sleep in one bed and then they get as hot as an oven! My home is loud, you have to watch where you're going because there are toys everywhere... There's a lot of laughter and a lot of crying - especially when they're told to go to bed!"
