Dakota Fanning is celebrating her 21st birthday at home with five friends.

The actress hits the landmark age on February 23 next year, but even though it’s still a long way off, she is feeling the pressure. The star has decided that any night out probably won’t live up to expectations, so instead she’s doing things differently.

“I have no idea what to do. It’s been such a talked-about thing for so long, like, what are you gonna do for your birthday, that I think by the time it rolls around I’m just going to stay home with five friends and call it a day,” she told New York Post.

It’s not much of a surprise that Dakota isn’t planning a raucous all-night party. The star has never been into the nightclub scene, explaining she passes her time in a much more relaxed manner.

“Pretty much every director I’ve ever worked for I’ve knit a scarf for,” she revealed.

Don’t expect Dakota’s birthday to be a dull affair though. She may not be heading out, but she still has plans to have fun, explaining earlier this year that she may take the opportunity to try something she’s always wondered about.

“I was just thinking about it," she told E! News. "I kind of want to go do karaoke even though I'm terrified to do it. But I think if I'm 21, maybe I can have something to help me."

Dakota’s famous sister Elle celebrated her 16th birthday in April, another milestone for the family.

"Sweet sixteen, it's the big one!" she enthused about her special day at the time. "I'll be in school… which is kind of exciting too because your friends will bring you cupcakes. But yeah, I had a dinner before because I wanted my sister to be in town so we had something a couple months ago, but tomorrow I'll probably just eat cake and go out to eat."
