Claire Danes and Jeff Daniels won top Emmy Awards Sunday evening.
The Homeland star repeated her win for Outstanding Lead Actress, Drama for the second year running while Jeff scored The Newsroom's first Emmy.
Taking the stage, Claire took a moment to recognise Homeland's late writer Henry Bromell, whose wife accepted the his Emmy for Outstanding Writing, Drama earlier in the evening.
"I have to take this moment to recognise our most treasured... one of our very most treasured writers, Henry Bromell, who won tonight," she said. "He passed away in March, and we just love him so much. He was a brilliant person, and so kind, and we think of him every day as we continue to work on the show that he helped define."
Netflix's political drama House of Cards earned David Fincher the Emmy for Outstanding Directing, Drama, while the show's leading actor, Kevin Spacey, lost out to Jeff in one of several unexpected wins of the evening.
"No one in America is winning their Emmy office pool," host Neil Patrick Harris joked during the broadcast.
Jeff acknowledged as much when he took the stage.
"Well, crap. I didn't expect this. I never win," he mused, noting that his last big award was for best actor "over 50", bestowed by the American Association for Retired People.
"This is better," he laughed.
Other big wins of the night included Breaking Bad for Outstanding Drama Series and Modern Family's triumph in the Outstanding Comedy Series category.
Michael Douglas also took home the Emmy over his Behind the Candelabra co-star Matt Damon in the Outstanding Lead Actor, Miniseries or Movie category. The Steven Soderberg TV drama also won Outstanding Miniseries or Movie.
The Emmy broadcast also saw a touching posthumous tribute to the stars who passed away this year, including an emotional speech delivered by Jane Lynch for her late Glee co-star Cory Monteith.
"Cory was a beautiful soul," she said.
James Gandolfini, Gary David Goldberg, Jean Stapleton, Jonathan Winters, and others were also honoured Sunday evening during the memorial tribute.
The 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
