Daniel Craig has given his James Bond future “no thought whatsoever”.

The 47-year-old actor will play suave spy 007 for the fourth time in upcoming movie Spectre.

He is contractually obliged to take on the role for one further film, but when it comes to continuing to star in the franchise, Daniel has no idea where his path will lead.

“I can’t give you an honest answer at this point,” Daniel told Entertainment Weekly magazine. “It’s not that I’m trying to play hard to get. I’ve just given it no thought whatsoever.

“This movie has taken up two years of my life. And I just need a break. I need to get back to normal life.

“I need to reintroduce myself to my family who are not best pleased with me. The idea of planning ahead — I’m not trying to be coy. People want an answer and I don’t have one.”

Actors already tipped to take over the role from Daniel include Damian Lewis, Idris Elba and Tom Hardy.

But until the moment Daniel opts to leave the franchise, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli is more than happy with his portrayal of the spy for the time being.

“Daniel has reinvigorated this character,” Barbara told EW. “He’s made it contemporary, given it depth and resonance and humanity. The part is his.

“He’s so great and attracts so many people who want to work with him like Christoph [Waltz] and Léa [Seydoux], Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw.”

Daniel’s first outing as Bond was in 2006 movie Casino Royale, before he took on the role again in Quantum of Solace in 2008. The second film received mixed critical reviews and made Daniel all the more determined to blow people away with his third Bond film – 2012’s Skyfall.

“Quantum was what it was,” Daniel told Empire magazine. “I said, 'We have to get Skyfall right.' I felt a massive amount of pressure. Instinctively, I felt that if we pushed each other we'd get something. And I felt the need to push Sam [director, Mendes] probably harder than I should, and he kicked back and pushed me and we've done the same on this [new movie Spectre]. We just push each other. We blew up at each other a couple of times."
