Daniel Day-Lewis has emerged as the 4/11 favourite to win ‘Best Actor’ at the Screen Actors Guild awards for his portrayal as Abraham Lincoln, alongside Jennifer Lawrence, the current favourite to pick up ‘Best Actress’ for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.

In a good year for Brits, the Oscar bellwether sees a double nomination for Dame Maggie Smith for her roles in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (9/1, Best Supporting Actress) and Downton Abbey (11/2 Best Actress, Drama), while Dame Helen Mirren is currently 14/1 outsider to pick up Best Actress for her role in Hitchcock.

Still grinning from his Emmy win, Damien Lewis is installed as the 4/6 favourite to scoop Best Drama Actor for Homeland, ahead of 15/8 Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad, 11/2 Steve Buscemi for Boardwalk Empire and 9/1 Jon Hamm for Mad Men.

Meanwhile Homeland leads the nominations for Best Ensemble Cast (13/8), ahead of 9/4 Downton Abbey and 7/2 Boardwalk Empire.

A Paddy Power spokesperson said: It has been a good year for British nominations, but the big question is where’s Joaquin' For some time Phoenix has been one of the favourites to land Best Actor at the Oscars, but this snub hints otherwise.”
