Daniel Radcliffe has joked he's feeling bitter that Eddie Redmayne gets such a "brilliant" costume in the Harry Potter spinoff.

The 26-year-old actor got his big break as wizard Harry in the film franchise but made magic for the last time in final instalment Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in 2011. Potter fans are now gearing up for J. K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, starring Eddie as Newt Scamander.

The Oscar winner is looking dapper in sneak peeks of the feature, which show him dressed in a waistcoat and bow tie. It's given Daniel pause for thought, who was dressed a lot more casually as Harry.

"Oh f**k you, Eddie, in your brilliant costume… I got jeans and a zip top for 10 years and you’ve got a great coat already'" Daniel laughed to NME magazine.

Eddie's film isn't the only spin-off; there's also sold-out, two-part West End play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

While the magic continues for fans, the Harry Potter cast had to let go of the films. It's not easy for Daniel, but he's managed to make his peace with the fact his wizarding days are over.

"It’s weird. But I’m happy for it to go on without me," he reasoned. "I’ve no ownership of it.

"I actually really want to see (the play). It would be a mental thing to try and see it with lots of very excited Harry Potter fans. But I kind of would like to know what happens now."

Daniel has moved on in his career, accepting parts in indie flicks like Horns and What If. Many have questioned his decision to avoid blockbusters, but it makes sense to the star.

"I don’t really have mainstream tastes," he explained. "People do ask me, 'Why do you choose such weird movies' but I don’t think they’re weird, they’re just stories I’m interested in."
