Patrick Dempsey’s wife filed for divorce after tiring of his passion for racing, according to reports.

The Grey’s Anatomy actor’s spouse of 15 years Jillian Fink cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ in papers submitted last week.

But according to a source, what really got to her was how “unavailable” her husband had become after getting into the car racing circuit.

“Jillian often complained to friends that Patrick would be unavailable to attend their children’s activities,” the insider told Radar Online. “Jillian had signed Patrick up for race car driving school, thinking it would be a fun hobby for him to have. Jillian regrets having encouraged it in the beginning. Race tracks in pit row aren’t exactly family friendly or safe for kids to be around.”

The former couple have three children together, daughter, Talula, 13, and twin sons, Darby and Sullivan, eight. For the make-up artist, his hobby coupled with the long hours of filming the hit medical drama started to take a real toll on their family time.

“Grey’s Anatomy has a gruelling filming schedule, with fifteen hour days very common,” the source continued.

Patrick, 49, seemed to acknowledge that all was not well at home in the days before they announced their divorce. He confessed that he needed to try harder to juggle all of his commitments.

“It would be nice to be one-pointed and not spread so thin sometimes," he told the Associated Press while at a race in Daytona Beach, Florida. "I think where I'm going is to really streamline and be much more specific in balancing things a little bit better than I have in the past.

“I've been incredibly fortunate to have Grey's run as long as it has. It's been a tremendous gift, and it's allowed all of this to happen. That's been taking up a lot of time, and of course, you have a life off the track and your family and trying to balance that out and make that work and then focusing on the racing."
