Diane Kruger felt inspired to act when she saw Mary Poppins.

The German actress has made a name for herself in Hollywood, appearing in films such as Inglourious Basterds and The Host.

From an early age she knew she wanted to pursue a career in the industry.

"The first film I remember watching is Mary Poppins," she smiled in a German Ticket interview for Badische Zeitung.

"As a little girl I did ballet and this film proved to me that singing and dancing can make people laugh and inspire them to dream. A total revelation!"

The Host is inspired by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer's book of the same title.

Diane has always been a big fan of Stephenie's and loved the vampire film franchise that came from her novels.

"Although I definitely don't belong to the target age group, I watched the Twilight movies because everyone was talking about them," she explained.

"You don't want to be living under a rock, and I must say I was fascinated."

In The Host, Diane plays The Seeker alongside young Irish star Saoirse Ronan, who found fame with Atonement and The Lovely Bones and plays dual roles Melanie Stryder and Wanda.

The star explained what her role involves and how it differs from Twilight.

"The Host is a little more challenging, because there are two souls trapped in one body - and there's no well-built boy ripping his T-shirt off before turning into a werewolf. But The Host is still very obviously along the same lines as Stephenie's other stories," Diane said.
