Donald Glover thinks it would have been "wrong" if he was cast as Spider-Man.

Earlier this week it was announced 19-year-old Caucasian actor Tom Holland will fill Andrew Garfield's boots as the superhero in the next Hollywood blockbuster.

The Twittersphere wasn't entirely happy with the choice, with one fan bemoaning the fact they'd picked a "skinny white boy again". Instead, they wanted Donald Glover, who voices biracial Miles Morales / Ultimate Spider-Man in the TV series, to land the role.

While 31-year-old Donald was flattered, he doesn't think he would have been a good fit.

“If I was playing a high-schooler, a lot of things would’ve been wrong,” he shrugged it off to USA Today.

“I’m really happy. I know the director’s gonna do a great job. I think everybody’s heart is in the right place.”

But there is a chance Donald would look at the action-packed part in the future.

“[Only if my character ages up] in the future, a Terminator thing jumping back and forth,” he reasoned.

“I’m always looking for a cool thing to have fun with and play around with."

For now, the star is happy with how things are, with his movie credits including harrowing horror The Lazarus Effect.

Olivia Wilde also starred in the creepy flick and had to wear black lenses for the part.

"I learned a lot from her. She had the contacts in, and she's so good and professional, even though she can't see anything," he previously laughed to Refinery 29.

"She's always asking, 'Does this make sense' Will this be scary in the moment when we're filming',' which I really, really like in an actress... It makes you fight for things. I personally am very passive sometimes and will follow people's lead. But, then you start to fight a little bit, which makes a very good dynamic."
