Dornan: I apologised after serial killer scenes

Jamie Dornan found it “tough” to get into the mindset of a serial killer.

The 33-year-old actor stars as Paul Spector in hit UK TV show The Fall, alongside Gillian Anderson.

The programme tells the tale of Spector’s fascination for killing young brunette women, and shooting the show saw Jamie have to film some particularly difficult scenes with his female co-stars.

In a new interview, Jamie has revealed he always did his best to make the process as easy as possible for his castmates.

"It was more difficult in the first season when there's more of seeing Spector in the act and actually carrying out these horrific crimes…” Jamie told GoldDerby.com. “You're with some lovely actress, and you're having to do kind of horrible things to her. I was always very apologetic, and when I was finished I always felt like I needed to get myself as far from that head space as I can.

"To stay in the head-space of someone who thinks the way he does and acts on the things that he thinks about is tough.”

Jamie has achieved critical acclaim for his role as Spector in the show. But while he is thrilled to have been given the opportunity to take on such a complex part, the star admits he doesn’t share some audience members’ empathy for his alter-ego.

“So many people have said this to me, that you're almost rooting for him to get away with it, which is really weird," he said. "I don't think I want him to get away with it. I don't really have much sympathy for the guy."
