Dunham: I’ve always been candid

Lena Dunham thinks it was “probably too early” when she began sharing personal stories.

The 28-year-old Girls star was chatting with representatives from Apple’s iBooks app on Twitter about her new book Not That Kind of Girl on Monday.

And she revealed she started sharing details about her life openly at a very young age.

“Probably too early. I was always the girl in middle creative writing class sharing the dramatic poem about my cat,” she mused.

The star has wanted to be a writer for some time.

“I think it was when I wrote a ‘novella’ in fourth grade that started some ‘debate’ about the plight of the homeless…” she recalled of the first time she considered the profession.

Lena’s writing has of course grown dramatically since then.

The actress touches on several controversial issues in the book. She admitted “all” of the topics were tough to share.

“With television, I could hide behind the veil of fiction but here, not so much,” she explained. “And yet, here I am…”

“I wanted to play with female archetypes and hit on the idea that no one is THAT kind of girl, because there are all KINDS of girls,” she added of the significance of the title.

Since launching HBO’s Girls in 2012, Lena has accumulated a long list of impressive credits as the show’s creator, writer, producer and star.

Asked which title she prefers, she said being a writer would “forever and always” be her choice.

“You can do it from anywhere, at any age, in any outfit,” she reasoned.
