(Cover) - EN Movies - Robert Duvall is reportedly in final negotiations to join the cast of The Judge.
Variety reports the 82-year-old Academy Award-winning actor will star alongside Robert Downey Jr. in the dramedy should he sign on to the ensemble.
Downey Jr. will portray a successful attorney who returns home for his mother’s funeral only to discover that his father who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, depicted by Duvall, is suspected of committing murder.
Initially Jack Nicholson and Tommy Lee Jones were thought to be close to securing the patriarchal part, but it appears Duvall beat them out.
It is rumoured producers are now searching for an actress to play the ex-girlfriend of Downey Jr.’s character. Apparently Elizabeth Banks and Vera Farmiga are both up for this female lead.
Nick Schenk penned the screenplay and David Dobkin will serve as director. David’s previous works include 2005 film Wedding Crashers and 2011’s The Change-Up.
Duvall will next be seen this year starring opposite Jeremy Irvine in rancher drama A Night in Old Mexico.
