Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson thinks Hercules has a “unique twist”.

The 41-year-old actor stars in the forthcoming action picture based on Radical Publishing’s graphic novel entitled Hercules: The Thracian War, which was written by Steve Moore and illustrated by Cris Bolsin.

Although there have been a huge amount of films made about the Greek mythological figure, Dwayne believes his feature is distinct.

“Well, there had been a few iterations in the past of Hercules. The idea was to take the spirit of the graphic novel, which we liked, and then create a script and a story based on that that still gave a very unique twist on the story of Hercules,” he is quoted by Collider as saying during a Q&A for the movie.

“But we also pay attention, respect and homage to the mythology of Hercules as it relates to the 12 Labors and the group that Hercules had around him, the anguish that he had to go through with the death of his family and things like that. So the goal was to strike a nice balance between, again, a unique twist on the story, and yet at the same time make sure that we still paid homage to the mythology of Hercules.”

Hercules was made with a $110 million budget and it was directed by Hollywood heavyweight Brett Ratner, who is behind X-Men: The Last Stand and the Rush Hour film series.

Dwayne can see himself doing more blockbusters in the future.

“The whole idea is just to continue to make movies that I enjoy playing and that audiences are going to enjoy me in. So franchises are always fun, because they’re big, and a lot of people like to go and escape and have fun with them,” the star said.
