Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne is "gagging" for a comedy role, but worries it would be a catastrophe because he's "deeply unfunny".
The British actor has wowed on the big screen with films such as My Week with Marilyn, Les Misérables and The Theory of Everything, for which he scooped the best actor Academy Award this year (15). He's hotly tipped to emerge successful at next year's (16) award ceremonies too after his role as real-life transgender artist Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl created awards buzz. However, that hasn't stopped Eddie from craving a more comical part.
"Oh my gosh. I'm gagging to do something funny, but I think I'm deeply unfunny, so I think it might well be a catastrophe," he grinned to POPSUGAR."I'm all up for a bit of comedy, but for some reason no one ever asks me. That's probably because they know something I don't.
"I think it must be quite terrifying doing hardcore comedies because I always think of comedy as being spontaneous, and yet everything about filmmaking is not spontaneous. It's take, after take, after take. Surely, how brutal must it be doing those scenes again and again and just hearing the groans from the crew. I'm always really impressed with comedic actors who can nail it time and time again."
One star Eddie is particularly impressed with is Emma Stone, who he thinks is amazing at improvisation. He loves tuning into her appearances on American sketch show Saturday Night Live, but admits he'd be too terrified to do it himself.
"I think I would try and make up some really good excuse as to why I couldn't do it because I'm basically just too nervous," he mused. "It's live! If you flunk, you flunk big time. There's so much potential for things to go wrong. I think it's too scary for me."
The Danish Girl, also starring Alicia Vikander and Amber Heard, begins to hit cinemas later this month (Nov15).
