Efron: Rogen was my God

Zac Efron was “so nervous” to meet Seth Rogen.

The pair co-star in forthcoming comedy Neighbors, about a couple with a newborn baby who move in next door to a fraternity house.

At a screening of the film in Austin, Texas Saturday night, Zac admitted he was a ball of anxiety when he first approached Seth at a party a few years ago.

"I was so nervous," Zac told People.com

"He was sort of my God. It was at the Sunset Towers, I was 17 or 18, I idolised him at this point. I stopped him and told him, 'Seth, I have to tell you I'm a huge fan.'"

"I thought you were too young to see my movies," Seth mused. "Did your mom take you?"

Zac, now 26, plays frat boy Teddy Sanders in the film.

And director Nick Stoller had nothing but compliments for the former High School Musical star.

"Zac was super funny. For the fraternity, we wanted everyone to have a comic energy that was different from one another but still meshed,” he said, adding that Zac fit the bill.

The actor is meanwhile thrilled to still be on top in Hollywood, seeming to have navigated the slippery transition from child star to adult actor.

"I've been blessed to have the opportunities I've had,” he said.

"It couldn't have happened better. I'm stoked."

Neighbors opens in US cinemas May 9.
