Elizabeth Banks thinks comedy stars deserve more recognition.
The American actress has become synonymous with funny flicks such as Role Models and The 40-Year-Old Virgin but doesn't think comedians are appreciated when it comes to awards season.
"It's so hard to consistently make people laugh and I am disappointed that critics don't recognise that. You get no awards. It is so difficult to make a truly funny, entertaining movie," Elizabeth sighed to British newspaper Metro. "I feel that's where my talent lies, in cultivating young comedy as well."
Elizabeth's latest movie venture is the third instalment of The Hunger Games franchise, with Mockingjay - Part 1 hitting cinemas today.
The blonde star plays the eccentric Effie Trinket alongside stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. While she's cemented her status as a Hollywood actress, the 40-year-old initially thought a career in film was unrealistic.
"When I was graduating I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life and I didn't know any working actors so it felt like a total pipe dream. But the decision to go to drama school set me on the path to where I am today because it was committing to studying acting and taking it seriously.
"When I graduated from drama school I told myself I would give it two years to make money doing it. I luckily got a lot of commercials in my first year, so I paid off student loans, travelled to Europe and made money to get by," she smiled.
