Elizabeth McGovern gets into a frenzy before Christmas.
The American actress is well known for playing Cora Crawley in smash hit period drama Downton Abbey. The cast are gearing up for their Christmas special, and 53-year-old Elizabeth can’t wait for the festive day to arrive.
“At the moment I like Little Drummer Boy. I’ve always loved that song; I just love the story of it. Well of course [I’m a very Christmassy person], why not? Yeah, I think to just take a time when everybody has to be with family is, for better, for worse, a very important thing to do,” she smiled to TV show Good Morning Britain.
“The days leading up to it do feel a frenzy, I don’t think there’s anybody who would argue with that. It just feels like this humungous pressure more than anything else. But then when the day dawns it’s worth it.”
The Christmas episode of Downton Abbey was filmed away from the normal location, with cast and crew heading to Northumberland, UK.
Harry Potter also shot there and Elizabeth admits it was nice to get away from their usual grand surroundings.
“We are in one of the great castles of England, Alnwick Castle, so the special is astoundingly beautiful and very Christmassy.
“Well, it’s nice for the cast just to have a change of atmosphere. You get bored of the same old castle!” she joked.
Downton Abbey fans also received a treat when George Clooney appeared in a special episode of the show for charity.
Elizabeth got up close and personal with the handsome star but says it was all in a day’s work.
“Somebody had to do it. It’s all for charity, what can I say?” she smiled. “Well it was a heck of a lot of fun for the cast, I promise. It was nice to cut loose [on the special].”
