Elle Fanning can identify with her The Boxtrolls character.

The blonde actress has lent her vocal talents to the new animated flick, which also features Sir Ben Kingsley, Nick Frost and Richard Ayoade.

Elle plays feisty Winnie, and getting into character wasn't much of a struggle for the teen star.

"I felt I could relate to her because we’re both excited and we’re both go-getters. We also try to overcome our fears," Elle explained to British newspaper Mirror.

"But I think she is definitely more dramatic than I am and a little spoiled and bratty. But as the movie goes on, she shows her sensitive side."

Elle, 16, and big sister Dakota are two of the hottest names in Hollywood right now, and have 11 new movie projects coming up between them.

Dakota has already mastered the art of voiceovers, starring in 2009 film Coraline. While she didn't shed any light on what it takes to lay down your voice, she was happy her younger sibling got to experience an animated movie, too.

"I had visited my sister when she was doing Coraline, so in a weird way I felt like I grew up knowing about stop-motion.

"But she didn’t give me any tips – she was just excited that I was going to do it because she had such a fun time doing Coraline.

"She has her Coraline statue in her room and I have my Winnie statue in mine!" Elle beamed.

The sisters share a close bond, and Elle reveals there is never any rivalry when it comes to getting roles.

Dakota, 20, recently left the family home to move to college in New York and Elle misses her presence around the house.

"I miss her at home and it’s kind of weird because we share a bathroom, but she’s not there anymore.

"I feel like a single kid... Like, 'Where’s my sister' But I guess everyone has to deal with that when their siblings go off to college," she added.
