Emma Roberts thinks her first kiss gave her an "unrealistic view" of romance.

The 23-year-old actress has grown up on screen, which is actually where she locked lips for the first time. She can vividly recall that first smooch, which took place on the TV show Unfabulous, where she played Addie Singer.

"His name was Raja and he played Jake Behari on my TV show Unfabulous. He was the cutest," she laughed to Wild magazine. "I feel like I had so many of my firsts on TV and in movies before I did in real life - all of them actually. They were fake before they were real, which I think gave me an unrealistic view of how they should be."

Initially, the actress appeared in comedies, but she's now taking on darker roles such as in the cult TV show American Horror Story. She hopes to continue pushing herself when it comes to her career and unlike some others in her boat, hasn't found moving genres particularly taxing.

"I think it’s easy to transition from teen to adult in movies, I think it’s harder in real life," she explained. "Someone asked me how old I was the other day and I was literally like, 'Oh I’m 19.' And then I was like, 'Wait, I just lied I’m 23. I don’t know why I said that, sorry.' He just looked at me like I was crazy. I forgot that I wasn’t 19, it was so weird. Now I know what they say, how life really speeds up at a certain point.”

Emma joined American Horror Story in 2013 and plays Maggie Esmerelda/Madison Montgomery. The series is known for attracting major names, with Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates among the regulars. Emma has to pinch herself when she thinks of her work environment, not least because she's bonded so fully with her co-stars.

"We’re shooting in New Orleans, which I think really changed the dynamic. When you’re in LA, you go to work and then you go home and you don’t really bond," she said. "Putting us all in New Orleans made us so much closer and made us depend on each other more. It created a little world down there for us, which I love. Last year, I was crying at the last episode.”
