(Cover) - EN Movies - Eva Green didn’t watch any Dark Shadows episodes before shooting the film version, because the show failed to “inspire” her.

The French actress plays Angelique Bouchard in Tim Burton’s new movie adaptation of the hit ‘60s TV show. Her character is a witch who has a love-hate relationship with vampire Barnabas Collins, played by Johnny Depp. Although there were plenty of opportunities for Eva to view old episodes of the series, she wanted to make the character her own.

“I’ve seen scenes, but the show’s not inspiring for my character,” she told the May issue of GQ.

Instead, Eva listened to music by Patti Smith and The Eagles and studied film clips, particularly Jack Nicholson’s bar scene in The Shining, to prepare for the role.

Eva also revealed she had an awkward encounter with Lara Parker – who played the original character of Angelique in the TV show. Lara makes a brief appearance in the new movie and Eva admits meeting her on set led to a confusing situation.

“When I met her I was thinking, ‘Oh no, I haven’t done my homework! It was weird: she thought she was playing Angelique because she had a cameo,” she recalled.

Eva and Johnny enjoy considerable on-screen chemistry in Dark Shadows.

Following rumours that Johnny’s relationship with Vanessa Paradis is on the rocks, there was even speculation that he had fallen for Eva in real life.

However, Eva insists she has a boyfriend and dismissed reports that she has feelings for her co-star.

“It was ridiculous. These people must be rather bored,” she insisted. “[My boyfriend] laughed. It’s funny.”

Dark Shadows also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Jonny Lee Miller, Helena Bonham Carter and Chloë Moretz.

It is set to be released worldwide from May 2012.
