Jimmy Fallon was rushed to hospital on Friday to have surgery on his hand.
The 40-year-old presenter injured his left hand in the early hours of the morning, although details of the incident have yet to be revealed.
The accident came after Jimmy was seen posing for pictures with female fans at Scalinatella restaurant in New York after a dinner with business associates.
According to TMZ.com, Jimmy left the eatery at around 9pm and headed home, before the injury occurred.
After arriving at the hospital, he was told by a specialist that he should immediately have surgery on the hand.
"Jimmy Fallon was required to have minor surgery after injuring his hand at his Manhattan apartment this morning," his representative told People.com. "He is expected to make a full recovery."
The actor and comedian was forced to cancel the taping of the Tonight Show on Friday and is recovering from the surgery in hospital.
The news of the cancellation was revealed on the Fallon Tonight Twitter account, where a message read: “Hey guys.
Unfortunately tonight's taping has been cancelled due to Jimmy injuring his hand. He's totally fine but we'll be airing a repeat."
“Don’t need to worry, Jimmy is okay,” they later added.
Jimmy had already been scheduled to take a production hiatus from June 29 to July 10.
The presenter is father to daughters Winnie and Franny with wife Nancy.
Both children were born via surrogate after the couple struggled to conceive. However, Jimmy said in a previous interview that having children has served to make his marriage even stronger.
“If you're lucky enough to have kids, it's the greatest thing in the whole wide world,” he told YourTango.com. “You experience it together and it's the whole reason you get married in the first place. You want to experience these things together. It's just a magical, fun thing and it makes marriage better. We always had a good marriage, but it's even stronger. It's just another fun thing we have in common now. So we're just loving it.”
