Kathy Griffin spoke to Joan Rivers about hosting Fashion Police! “many times”.

The 54-year-old comedian was friends with the comic icon before she passed away at the age of 81 in September and earlier this week new reports surfaced claiming Kathy will be taking over Joan’s anchor role on the sartorially centred talk show.

And the redheaded star claims she spoke with Joan about the possibility frequently in the past.

"Ironically, [Joan] and I talked about it many times," Kathy told People magazine. "She would joke that, no matter what, I should always get 10 per cent less than she got."

Kathy confirmed to the publication weeks ago she’d been offered the Fashion Police! gig, but to date the funnywoman remains undecided on the opportunity.

She’s still ruminating over the implications of hosting such a hit show in legendary Joan’s shadow.

"It's definitely something that I've put a lot of thought into," Kathy noted. "Obviously there is an emotional tie for me because Joan was such a good friend of mine, a close friend, truly a mentor – but also a legit friend. We talked about everything, and we joked about everything on the table, so it's something that I've been thinking about for a while and I think it's something they've been thinking about too."

Kathy is well-known for her reality TV show, My Life on the D-List, which ran from 2005 to 2010.

And she thinks it would be absolutely hilarious if she did end up joining Fashion Police!

“I have been a fashion 'don't' for years!” Kathy laughed. "I used to actually laminate my 'What Was She Thinking?' pictures and put them on my refrigerator, but they then covered the entire wall. I am not afraid to be a 'do' or a 'don't.' We'll see what happens."
