Jake Gyllenhaal worries for 50 Cent because everybody loves him.

The two stars are good pals, with their friendship cemented after they worked on the upcoming boxing movie Southpaw together. Jake believes the rapper is widely misunderstood as he’s actually a very sweet and caring man, with the actor hinting he fears some might take advantage of him.

“[50] was essentially an extra in some of the fight scenes. He’d sit there for hours being enthusiastic and really loving. I love 50, I really do. I don’t know anybody who meets him who doesn’t. Although I don’t know if that’s such a good thing,” he told British magazine Heat.

“I’m always wary if everybody loves you. I mean, I’m sure there’s some people who don’t, but he’s such a good man and always so positive – I love his energy.”

Not everyone has such great love for 50 though as he’s currently embroiled in court drama after being ordered to pay Lastonia Leviston $5 million after a sex tape of her was posted online. After the ruling the hip-hop star filed for bankruptcy, with some raising eyebrows about the timing.

Jake didn’t touch on that, but was happy to discuss another of his co-stars. Following her successful stint in the 50 Shades of Grey film, Rita Ora bagged a part in Southpaw. Initially Jake wasn’t sure about the casting, but he is pleased to have been proved completely wrong.

“I met her for the first time on set. And, you know, you kind of go, ‘OK, I know her from her music and stuff, but I’d never seen her work as an actor before.’ She came on and I didn’t know if she’d pull it off – I wasn’t so sure, you know – but she killed it,” he gushed.

“She’s a really talented girl and great to work with. She’s a whole lot of fun, but also very serious about her work and was nervous in the right way and humble in the right way, too. I’d like to see her do more of it.”
