Katherine Heigl suggests women plan small weddings to “avoid drama”.

The 34-year-old actress takes on a starring role in upcoming comedy The Big Wedding.

Filming the movie made Katherine reflect on her nuptial ceremony with husband of nearly six years Josh Kelley.

Katherine has key advice for fellow celebrities and soon-to-be newlyweds Jessica Simpson and Kelly Clarkson.

"I would say keep it intimate and small. I mean, you want to include all the people you love most, but ultimately it's really just kind of the best party ever and it should feel like that," she told Entertainment Tonight.

"It shouldn't feel like you have to stand in a receiving line for four hours thanking everyone for coming."

Apparently having a large, lavish wedding would have totally ruined Katherine’s big day.

She enjoyed spending the special occasion with her dearest loved ones.

"I was really particular about my own wedding 'cause I wanted to avoid all that kind of drama," Katherine recalled. "I just felt like the smaller, more intimate group, the better 'cause the bigger... it gets, the more room for chaos."

Katherine met musician Josh on the set of his music video for Only You and they married in 2007.

The couple adopted baby girl Nancy Leigh from South Korea in 2009 and in 2012 they adopted second daughter Adalaide.
