Jack O'Connell has a massive crush on Dame Judi Dench.

The 24-year-old actor stars alongside the British icon in Tulip Fever, which is due out next year. It's a 17th century romance, which sees an artist fall for a married woman. Jack had a great time on set, with the 79-year-old actress leaving a lasting impression on him.

"You know for a moment there I forgot I actually worked with Dame Judi Dench. I fancy her, I really fancy her," he told British magazine Glamour. "I think she fancies me. I bought her a bottle of Moet and she kissed me on my cheek. Then she said, 'Goodbye, darling boy.' Can I quote something else she said? She turned to me and went, 'Sock it to 'em, Jack.'"

At the moment Jack is promoting Unbroken, which was directed by Angelina Jolie. It tells the story of Olympic athlete Louis Zamperini, who became a prisoner of war during World War II.

Jack is still astounded he was chosen for the lead role, although he tried not to let it show on set.

"My respect for her is through the roof... but there's no way she'd trust me to perform a role like that if I was just sat there dumbfounded by her," he said.

Jack and Angelina forged a strong bond during the shoot in Australia and he got to know her husband Brad Pitt too. This caused his mother some delight when she got to spend time with the Hollywood hunk too.

"There was one occasion, since Unbroken, when we were all in London and Angie invited us all for some dinner, and Brad was there," Jack recalled. "I had a word with Angie, and said, 'Look, d'you reckon Brand would say hello to my mum?' and she said, 'Yeah! And the rest.' My mum was talking to him as if he was one of our lot [family] and he must have warmed to her. People do warm to that about me mum. Twenty minutes later they'd become pals."
