Jackie Chan is on a mission to educate Chinese people on the benefits of modern medicine.

The action star hails from Hong Kong and feels that some citizens in his native country are stuck in the past when it comes to healing.

As well as a busy movie career, Jackie is passionate about education and is also an advocate for wildlife conservation.

"Chinese people still think that if you eat pig's brain, it'll make you more clever and if you drink pig's blood, it cleans the toxins form your body. I did this when I was young. It's nonsense," Jackie told British newspaper Metro.

"It's like you put tiger balm on if you get hurt but it still hurts. We need to teach people that there are better things to use now. And it's important to preserve wildlife."

The 60-year-old star has more than 120 acting credits to his name, and shows no sign of slowing down any time soon.

As well as being one of the biggest name in kung fu flicks, Jackie has also directed many films over his career.

His latest directorial effort is 2012 film Chinese Zodiac. Being at the helm of a movie means the star can dictate what goes on.

"When I direct my own films, I like action but I hate violence. You can have fun with it. And after, everyone has to become friends. And I don't like swearing in films. I want to provide positive messages," he smiled.

While he still he enjoys being at the forefront of fight scenes, Jackie is hoping he can take a step back from action roles and focus more on his acting abilities.

Though he'd never turn his back on kung fu forever.

"For the past ten years, I've been saying I don't want to be an action star, I want to be an actor who can do action. I was planning this for seven years, writing the script, directing, working out what kind of action would work best. When I was at Cannes, I said: 'That's my last big action movie'. I didn't say last action movie, I say last big action movie," he explained.
