James Corden used to have monthly lunch dates with Anna Wintour.

The British star is riding a career high at the moment, having appeared alongside Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt in Into the Woods and scored a talk show in the US.

American Vogue editor Anna has long been a fan of the comedian, with the pair spending a lot of time together over the years.

"We used to go for lunch every month when I was doing a play in New York. I'd say I speak to her fairly frequently. I really, really like her. We get on very well and she's incredibly supportive," he told British magazine Heat.

Anna has a fearsome reputation, with some claiming fashion magazine movie The Devil Wears Prada was based on her. James doesn't understand why people think that way about her, as she has been nothing but kind to him.

"I've never ever seen anything at all that shows that is the case. All I've ever met is an unbelievably supportive, caring, warm lady, who is a real champion of people. It's not just me; there's a lot of people who she wants to get behind and help them. I'm over the moon whenever I'm in her company, I really like her," he said.

The actor knows full well that many are fearful of his pal though. He's seen that first hand, joking about what happened when Anna popped in to see him backstage at a TV show once.

"No, I don't usually have a stylist... but I was a guest on a US chat show and there was stylist there who'd got me a suit. Anna had come down to see me and she walked in and said, 'So, what are we wearing?' The poor stylist nearly hyperventilated," he giggled.
