James McAvoy finds it terrifying watching his films for the first time at the premiere, as he's scared the audience will boo.
The Scottish actor stars opposite Harry Potter protégé Daniel Radcliffe in Victor Frankenstein, which explores the man behind the legend. Luckily James had watched the finished piece before it started being screened to the masses so didn't panic as much about how people would react.
"I've been in that situation a couple of times when the premiere has been the first time I've seen it, and it's terrifying," he told BBC Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw. "You're watching with an audience who could boo, who could cheer, who could just be like, 'Meh, should've stayed in and got a curry.' There's gonna be gasps (when watching Victor Frankenstein)."
The pair hadn't met before production began, but quickly formed a close bond on set. Daniel's hunchback character Igor narrates the tale and the role required the actor to distort his body. There's a scene in which Victor straightens out his assistant's spine - one which both men found satisfying thanks to the gore.
"I think probably about... We did maybe just over two and a half weeks filming those scenes," Daniel explained of portraying a hunchback. "But you know, it's a nice challenge and you want it to be painful, a little bit. I enjoy being twisty.
"There is a particular joy on set when you are doing something, making something that you know is gonna gross people out. You all just get very happy."
James on the other hand didn't have to alter his appearance dramatically. That's not to say he hasn't transformed in the past though and has rocked everything from a shaved head to a head of bushy hair for roles. One particular character look will always stand out as it came surprisingly easy to him.
"I did a movie called Starter for 10 and I had to have the most dodgy '80s mullet you've ever seen in your life," he laughed. "But the really annoying thing is that to get that hair cut... When they brought me into the hair and make-up room for the very first time, they just went, 'Oh, it's perfect!' I was like, 'Noooo!' Yep, I was going around with a mullet and not getting a lot of love.
