Jason Statham believes Hollywood is "superficial".

The British action star has made a name for himself in films such as The Transporter and The Expendables franchises.

He's currently dating model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and is grateful he has a solid relationship in such a fickle industry.

"Hollywood is superficial! People want to be your friend in the hope they'll become famous," he sighed to German channel Tele 5.

"I miss my mates more than anything... But I'm lucky; I have a British girlfriend, and thanks to her, I always have a little piece of home with me."

It was director Guy Ritchie who helped 47-year-old Jason on the road to success. He scored his first major part in 1998's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and also worked with him on Revolver and Snatch.

"It was Guy Ritchie who filmed my audition video at his house," Jason said, referring to how he came to be cast in Luc Besson's massive hit The Transporter and its later instalments.

The actor is famed for doing his own stunts, which is dangerous work for someone who makes so many fast-paced action films.

But he thinks it's ultimately Guy's advice that has helped him make it this far.

"He thinks I would be a better actor if I didn't learn all the typical acting techniques. I'll always listen to the advice of the man who made my career happen," he said.

Jason has three movies out next year - Fast & Furious 7, Spy and Mechanic 2.
