Jennifer Lawrence caused a car accident because she thought she'd seen a famous American pageant princess.

The actress was in Georgia shooting the Hunger Games sequel when the incident occurred.

Jennifer got so over excited when she thought she had spotted seven-year-old beauty queen Honey Boo Boo that she rear-ended another vehicle.

The star blushed as she told American talk show host Jay Leno that the parade she drove past wasn't in honour of the young reality star at all.

"I had a car accident a few weeks ago driving from work and I thought I saw Honey Boo Boo. It was a breast cancer parade, and people were wearing [sashes] that said 'boobs,' but I thought it was saying 'Boo Boo,' and so I said, 'Whoa, does that mean Honey Boo Boo?’" Jennifer explained to Jay. "So I started craning my neck and I saw a little girl and I was like, 'That's Honey Boo Boo.'"

Jennifer stopped concentrating on her driving as she struggled to see what she thought was the much loved pageant tot.

"I craned my neck to see and I was still driving at the time so I rear-ended another vehicle," Jennifer cringed.

"I had to get out of the car and explain what happened, I was like, 'I'm sorry that I hit your family. I thought I saw Honey Boo Boo.'"

Honey Boo Boo, aka Alana Thompson, is a seven-year-old beauty pageant participant and the star of a US reality programme called Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

The show follows Honey Boo Boo's life with her parents and three older sisters in their rural hometown in Georgia, America.
