Jennifer Lopez has signed onto forthcoming drama 33.
The actress will star alongside Antonio Bandares, Martin Sheen and Rodrigo Santoro in the film about the 2010 San José mine disaster in Chile, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The mine caved in, trapping 33 miners a half-mile below the Earth's surface for 69 days.
Details have not been released regarding her role in the project.
Antonio will be playing the role of a "charismatic miner nicknamed 'Super Mario'," according to the outlet, while Rodrigo will play one of the trapped miners.
Martin with play a miner's father.
Patricia Piggen is directing.
Mikko Alanne and Jose Rivera are penning the screenplay. Mike Medavoy and Ed McGurn are producing. Carlos Eugenio Lavín and Leopoldo Enriquez will executive produce.
The project is scheduled to begin production in Chile this fall.
It will mark Jennifer's first feature film role since this year's action film Parker.
The actress/singer previously admitted she was worried she wouldn't be able to successfully return to acting after having her twin children in 2008.
"I wouldn't say that it was nerve-wracking because I was really excited to get back to work but at the same time I was like, 'What if I forgot how to do it right?' she told Total Film Magazine after working on 2010's The Back-up Plan.
Her worries were without merit. Jennifer said she's relaxed more now than ever on set.
"I used to be such a stickler for having my lines memorised before I showed up for rehearsal," she said.
"Now I don't even know them until the last second I walk out of the trailer. It's almost like I know the material in such a deep way that I'm not even stressed about it."
