Jesse Tyler Ferguson has "baby fever".

The Modern Family star plays Mitchell Pritchett in the US comedy show, who is father to Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons). Jesse got married to Justin Mikita last year and his work life has made him think about what he wants to happen at home.

“Yeah, the show has definitely given me baby fever; most definitely. Aubrey, who plays Lily, is seven and that’s a tough age for kids. She can be a little precocious at times and there are those moments when Aubrey acts up a little bit and I go, ‘Well, thank God I don’t have a child to go home to,’ and then there are other moments when she’s just so sweet and all I want to do is steal her and take her home," he told parade.condenast.com. "We want to have a family someday, and I’m hopefully going to be as good of a father as Mitch is because I think he’s a pretty awesome dad.”

After tying the knot in real life, Jesse will be marrying on the small screen too. His character is due to wed Cam later this season, with Jesse thrilled to have the opportunity to relive his special day.

"Ironically, one of my best friends, Colin Hanlon, who plays our friend Steven on the show, was brought in as one of my groomsman in the episode, and he was at my real wedding as well. I was teasing him that he had more lines at my real wedding than in the episode," he laughed.

On top of that, Elizabeth Banks appears in the scene. She and Jesse are good friends and the actress couldn't make it to his real-life wedding, so was pleased to celebrate with him on some level at least.

Modern Family also stars Sofía Vergara, Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet, among others, and the cast have a tight bond.

Even when they aren't shooting they stay in touch, which Jesse says is one of the best things about the show.

"The whole cast is incredibly tight-knit, but I do feel that the couples on the show have a special bond with each other and hopefully that shows on screen, too," he explained.
