Jodie Foster tries to stay relevant.
The Hollywood actress burst on to the scene as a child star and has worked solidly since the late 60s.
Her career has been a varied one and she's played everything from a teenage prostitute in Taxi Driver to a FBI student Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs.
The 52-year-old has starred in epic action films and fun kids movies, and she's always on the hunt for fresh material.
"You gotta change. You have to keep on moving and stay relevant. Otherwise you might as well be a crumbling concrete feather fighting a tidal wave. I say, keep on learning things and growing creatively," Jodie told Porter magazine.
For the fashion publication Jodie listed her ten life lessons. As well as evolving, Jodie has to remind herself to say no every so often and check in with friends and family.
Another life rule is to be alert.
"If you show up, something will come to you. Instead of running around with my hair on fire, I've learned to drink some coffee, relax and just pay attention. Once I get there, inspiration kicks in, or it doesn't. Either way, the coffee was delicious," she smiled.
She's also learned that life isn't all that bad, but even with two Oscars to her name Jodie isn't immune from feeling low. However, she now makes the conscious effort to try and look on the bright side.
"Life does not suck, necessarily. I was raised to believe that negativity is your safest bet - you're never disappointed. Now I try to be positive and fool myself into believing the world is not about to end," she revealed.
