Joe Manganiello was allowed to pick his own "S&M anthem" to go with his stripping scene.
The actor is back as Big Dick Richie in Magic Mike XXL, the sequel to 2012's risqué film. It follows the boys on their final outing as strippers, with Joe's character beginning his sultry dance to Bruno Mars' romantic Marry You before transitioning into a bondage-themed routine to Nine Inch Nails' Closer.
Joe, 38, has now revealed why the rocky track packed with expletives seemed the perfect choice.
"Oh yeah totally, I got to pick the music, I'm a big Nine Inch Nails fan, it was kind of the perfect steam punk S&M anthem. It was great I love the juxtaposition of getting married and carrying her over the threshold and soon as you cross that, the door closes and it's a completely different experience for everyone," he grinned to glamourmagazine.co.uk.
Joe gets plenty of screen time in the sequel, also impressing in a hilarious scene that sees him try to cheer up a grumpy gas station attendant by bumping and grinding a Pepsi machine and turning a bag of Cheetos and water into sexy items.
He makes it look easy, but the star admits there were hazards.
"Getting the Cheetos bag to rip properly when the camera was facing me was a little bit tricky. When it was behind me, no problem, other than the Cheetos it was probably like two or three takes," he laughed.
And doing the routine to the Backstreet Boys classic I Want It That Way was a no-brainer for the hunk.
"I just think the song was perfect for the routine, and yes I did get to pick that song. I just that this perfect song you know a tough guy would know all the words to. In that moment on drugs and challenged to make this girl smile I thought it would be funny to have this back story of this kind of closeted Backstreet love that none of the guys really knew about. That kind of comes out in the course of the film in the crucial moment when he tries to unlock his inner dancer, it's that song that releases it."
