Jon Hamm's possible Emmy win is out of his hands.

The American star has been nominated for a best actor gong for his portrayal of Don Draper in Mad Men, and will know his fate when the awards take place on Monday evening.

His portrayal of the slick advertising executive has previously bagged him a Golden Globe and countless other award nominations.

"It's not up to me unfortunately," Jon smiled to the MailOnline. "I've done all I can do vis-à-vis that and I was just happy to be nominated. I'm among a pretty good group of people so I'm very pleased to be on the list."

Mad Men is now in its seventh and final series, so a win this year would be particularly poignant for the star.

If he misses out on gold though, Jon knows how to compose himself.

"Yeah last year, Amy Poehler and I had a losers lounge. It was pretty fun," he revealed.

As his Mad Men career winds down, Jon is now branching out into movie projects.

The 43-year-old star is currently playing JB in Million Dollar Arm, a true tale about a sports agent who starts a baseball recruitment strategy with talented cricket players from India.

"I know a little about cricket, I'm sort of a fan. Weirdly enough I was over here [England] last year for the ashes - I didn't attend but I did watch it every day when we were shooting A Young Doctor's Notebook, the second series. It's an education; it's very different but still a very exciting game.

"You can think about the movie that's it's not so much about baseball, it's about families and aspirational achievements and all that good stuff. And it's a true story; it's something I'm very proud of and I'm glad people are finally getting a chance to see it," he explained.
