Julianne Moore is thrilled by the "wild" ride she's had with Still Alice.

The 54-year-old actress is taking awards season by storm with her portrayal of Alzheimer's sufferer Alice Howland in the movie. She's already taken home the best actress Golden Globe, SAG and Critics' Choice Award for the role, and she is hotly tipped to get the Oscar too. Despite all her years in the industry, this has been an overwhelming experience for the star.

"Honestly, this has been wild. We made this movie last March - it hasn’t even been a year since we finished it. So that any of this has happened has been an anomaly and truly a surprise every step of the way,” she told New York Daily News' Confidenti@l. “I’m trying to remain as calm and present as possible. I’m incredibly grateful for everything that’s happening with this. And I don’t take any of it for granted.”

Alice is a linguistics professor who begins to fear something is wrong when she forgets words. After some tests she is told she has Alzheimer's disease, with the movie following her family as they try to cope with the diagnosis.

It also stars Kate Bosworth, Kristen Stewart and Alec Baldwin and Julianne worked hard to ensure she did justice to people with the disease. That meant spending time with women who were living with it and trying to understand what that was like.

"In New York I went to support groups with women who were so helpful and really explained to me what it felt like. A lot of what was in my script was taken from them,” she explained. “What was most meaningful is that I’ve gotten a lot of feedback from people in these communities saying that they felt seen and they felt understood, and that was really, really important.”
