The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced that the award-winning band Kasabian will perform at this year’s EE British Academy Film Awards.

Kasabian will follow in the footsteps of the legendary Tom Jones, multi-platinum-selling artist Tinie Tempah and Brit Award-nominated Paloma Faith by opening the ceremony with a live performance at The Royal Opera House, London, on Sunday 8 February.

Kasabian said: “As massive fans of British cinema it is a great honour to open the BAFTAs and celebrate the achievements in film over the last 12 months.”

As recent winners of the ‘Best Act In The World Today’ and ‘Best Live Act’ awards at the Q Awards, it has been a phenomenal year for Kasabian, which has seen the band not only claim a fourth straight number one album but also headline Glastonbury and their own sold-out Victoria Park show in Leicester.

Kasabian are: Tom Meighan (vocals), Sergio Pizzorno (guitar, vocals), Chris Edwards (bass) and Ian Matthews (drums).

The EE British Academy Film Awards take place on Sunday 8 February at The Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden. Stephen Fry will be returning to host this year’s ceremony, which will be broadcast exclusively on BBC One in the UK – preceded by a red carpet show on BBC Three – and in all major territories around the world. On the night, www.bafta.org will also feature red carpet highlights, photography and winners’ interviews, as well as dedicated coverage on its social networks including Facebook (/BAFTA), Twitter (@BAFTA / #EEBAFTAs), Tumblr and Instagram.
