Kate Bosworth is apparently "desperate" to be a mother.

The 32-year-old actress tied the knot with director Michael Polish in 2013 after meeting on the set of her hit movie Big Sur.

While it is thought they are keen to start a family, insiders claim they have been unsuccessful with their natural attempts so far. If she fails to fall pregnant, the couple are thought to be considering adoption agencies within America to begin their journey into parenthood.

"Kate's desperate to be a mum," a source told the US OK! magazine. "She's very excited."

She would follow in the footsteps of other stars such as Sandra Bullock, who adopted New Orleans-born son Louis back in 2010.

In the meantime Kate is a stepmum to Michael's 16-year-old daughter Jasper, who lives with them part-time. The time spent with the teenager is said to only add to the blonde beauty's desire to have kids of her own.

"Jasper was sick over the holidays, and Kate took care of her. She's naturally very nurturing," the source added.

Recent reports said Kate was trying to clear her schedule for when she falls pregnant, but if adoption is the path she chooses, there's no doubt she'll still dial back.

She's made it no secret that she and Michael are looking forward to having children, as she divulged to InStyle UK magazine last year.

"I know that it's going to be tough, but Michael and I will find humour in it," she said of becoming parents. "We're already convinced that our kids will do things that are hilarious."

And it seems the timing is perfect, as earlier this year she explained that since turning 30 she has "calmed down" and feels a lot more comfortable with life.
