Kaya Scodelario: Mum gave fiancé green light

Kaya Scodelario's mother had to meet her partner again "in a different light" once they got together.

The 22-year-old actress is engaged to Benjamin Walker, who she met on a movie set last year. They confirmed they were to marry via some pictures posted on her Instgram account, which also featured her mother Katia. While it seems Katia gets along famously with Benjamin now, when he and Kaya first got together it was a bit of a shock.

"I've been staying recently in New York with my boyfriend. We met filming The Moon and the Sun in Australia. We were originally friends, then after two months of shooting, we both said, 'OK, I really like you.' We spend so much time apart it's great to get a stretch of time together. I introduced him to my mum back when were still friends. Now she keeps saying, 'I need to meet him again in a different light,'" Kaya told British magazine InStyle, in an interview conducted before her engagement.

The British star and her mother are very close and make sure to spend time together whenever they can. Towards the end of last year they spent time in Paris for the biannual Fashion Week, with staying in the famed French city always a dream of Katia's. In fact, it had such an impact on her that she began to cry when she saw the Eiffel Tower.

"Mum is Brazilian and raised me alone, so I feel very connected to her culture - the food, the language and the attitude to life is infectiously energetic and all about family. It's been a while since we've seen each other, as I've been away on a press tour for The Maze Runner, so it was great to snatch some mother-daughter time the night before the show," Kaya said.
