Keira Knightley was impacted greatly by the “dark subject matter” of her newest film.

The 26-year-old actress plays psychiatrist Carl Jung’s love interest Sabina Spielrein in the historical drama A Dangerous Method.

Keira admits that the seductive script was hard to absorb at times.

“It’s a dark subject matter, so you don’t want to have to take it home with you,” Keira told People magazine.

“Fortunately [during filming] the World Cup was on, so we were all going to the pub afterward, drinking beer and watching soccer.”

The movie also stars Viggo Mortensen and Michael Fassbender.

Keira’s co-star Michael was known to display another talent at the bar.

“Nobody can touch Michael. He’s a superior drinker,” she laughed. “No! No. There’s just no way [I could out-drink him]. He’s German-Irish! You’ve got to know when you’re beaten.”

Keira can identify with the turbulent emotions in the film.

“I can be calm, but occasionally I’m the opposite,” Keira explained.

“We’re emotional creatures.”

When Keira is seeking peace and quiet in times of stress, she takes to cooking to ease her nerves.

“I’m good at baking. I love making carrot cake and banana bread. I made a great apple-walnut cake recently: The more ingredients, the better!”

A Dangerous Method is currently in theatres.
