Kellan Lutz thinks the Expendables 3 leak “f***ing sucked”.

The 29-year-old actor stars as former US Marine John Smilee in the third part of the action franchise. He has spoken out about how detrimental it was that the film was pirated and hit the black market in July, prior to its August cinematic release.

“It really f***ing sucked,” the Twilight favourite lamented in an interview with MTV News.

The star explained he and other cast members found out about the leak during popular comic book convention, San Diego Comic-Con. Apparently it put a serious damper on things.

“We were on this high, thinking ‘I’m excited for this movie. We have this all-star cast, a really great story, fun action. It’s PG-13.’ You roll the dice seven after seven after seven with all of those components in this film, and you’re really excited,” Kellan said. “At the end of the day, one little thing can just ruin the box office opening for your film.”

He described the problem as one that could even go so far as to prevent a fourth installation of the franchise. People opting to watch for free at home instead of in the cinema “hurts” the property.

“If people don’t see it in the theatres, there’s a slim chance that you’ll get a fourth movie out of it,” he went on. “I think it really hurt.”

With that said, the star still loved working on the movie. He starred alongside the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren and Kelsey Grammer, and says a fun time was had by all.

“You don’t get tired of it,” the actor gushed. “You’re just really enjoying everything, and then you slowly go back to your normal life and it’s not as fun. I honestly wish that movie lasted longer. I wish we could do a fourth one. I wish I could hang out with all of those guys. It really felt like frat years that I never had.”
