Kidman: My mind isn’t scientific

Nicole Kidman owes her family to science.

The actress is mother to six-year-old Sunday Rose and four-year-old Faith with husband Keith Urban.

The pair went through countless fertility treatments before Nicole fell pregnant with Sunday, and the Australian star is under no illusions that without undergoing such treatments, she may never have become a parent.

“Totally! It helped give me a family,” she replied when asked by the Daily Mail about the influence science has had on her life.

Following Sunday’s birth, Nicole and Keith used a surrogate to have Faith.

Now Nicole will be exploring science in further detail as she prepares to take on the role of molecular biologist Rosalind Franklin in play Photograph 51.

Her late father Anthony, who died earlier this year, was a biochemist before he moved into the medicinal field.

But despite her upbringing, Nicole insists her brain is anything but scientific.

“I would love to say I had,” she said. “But I don’t. I have lots of friends who are in the sciences, doing stem-cell research and breast cancer work. That’s the future isn’t it? Genetic testing.”

Photograph 51 marks the first time Nicole has made a return to theatre since she appeared in The Blue Room 17 years ago.

And while Nicole admits she’s “terrified” about her return to the stage, which starts previews on Friday night, she says she is glad she made the decision to do it now.

“Maybe I’m just shellshocked. But if I hadn’t done it now, I’d never have done it. I couldn’t wait another 17 years,” she added.
