Kim Kardashian is adamant daughter North will work for what she wants.
The American personality became a worldwide star thanks to her reality TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which sees cameras follow her and her family around.
She is also married to superstar rapper Kanye West, and the couple welcomed their first child in June 2013.
While stories have surfaced of lavish gifts the proud parents bestow on their baby girl, Kim says North will have to work for a living when she's older.
"I was saying that earlier to my friends, ‘I wonder what [North’s] first job is gonna be.’ And they were like, ‘What' She’s gonna have a job'’ and I was like, ‘Are you kidding me' Of course she is.’ She will have to work for what she wants," Kim divulged to Britain's ES Magazine.
Kim also had a privileged upbringing, which saw her hang out with hotel heiress Paris Hilton. But luxury gifts evaded her as a youngster.
Luckily she was able to save up enough cash from her weekend job to indulge in high-end designer items when she was a teenager.
"I saved up for this Dolce & Gabbana dress I really wanted, or like in high school these Prada shoes that my parents wouldn’t buy me.
"And I remember they were $400, and I had to save for the entire year to get them... We didn’t get anything [from our parents], we had to get a job if we wanted it. So I was working in a clothing store and I would save and save," she explained.
Yesterday the reality TV star celebrated her 34th birthday, marking a year to the day since her rapper husband asked for her hand in marriage.
Now he’s taken to Twitter to congratulate his wife and the mother of their baby daughter.
“Happy Birthday baby! Thank you for being the dopest wife & mom!” he wrote.
“Sometimes I feel like just saying I love you isn’t strong enough to express how much I love you… (sic)”
It’s thought Kim chose to spend her special day with her beau and daughter. And it’s certain she wasn’t short of love, with her whole family turning to social media to wish her well.
“Even though I was the bossiest older sister she could ask for, she always loved me. Happy birthday to my sidekick. I love you. (sic),” Kourtney, 35, posted on Instagram.
Khloé, 30, also took to the picture sharing site to express her feelings: “Happy birthday sister!!!! My bestie, my confidante, the keeper of my secrets (well only of I threaten your life) the sharer of my world. You have become an amazing woman. I couldn't be prouder or more inspired. Enjoy your birthday KiKi! I love you like a fat kid loves cake! @kimkardashian (sic)”
